This spring, itchy to get my hands in the dirt and looking out onto my barren rooftop patio, I indulged in a rainbow flat of impatiens and gleefully attacked the gardens at the office.

The flowers survived and flourished (sometimes I wonder how, since when work got busy, watering the flowers was forgotten!), and it's a riot of colour out there now. What's really great is that there is a hummingbird that stops by every day at lunch to sample the goods.

Miss Maggie is 9 weeks old. She was adopted by Paul's sister recently, after a family decided to let her go due to "allergies."

But given that the little lady growls and lunges at your hand when you reach to pet her, and cringes away, it's pretty clear that in the few weeks her former "family" had her, they weren't very kind and were inclined to smack her upside the head when she acted like the puppy she is. Fortunately, she was taken in by R when there's lots of time to learn and heal.

Maggie was very distrustful of the camera and its noises, and this expression makes me sad, because she seemed to think I was going to hurt her.

The phone's been ringing since 8am today. The email's been constant. I stepped outside for some quiet and to enjoy the warm day, and bent over some hens&chicks to try a close-up. I'm balanced carefully on my toes, breathe-in-breathe-out-press-the-shutter... then WHAM. I nearly land face first in the garden.
Charlie had wandered up behind me and headbutted my arse to get my attention (newflash: it worked).

I moved on to the snowdrops again, got everything lined up, and then suddenly there was a giant cat leg in the frame.

I moved to the front of the property, found another plant, got everything exposed properly and then there was this big shadow. Guess who?

Apparently it's hard being a cat around here. Snuggles, food, the ability to sleep on the couch (even though he's an outdoor cat!), isn't enough. He has to get in every frame too!

Miss Beanie again, as I pulled in help to try to get a good shot of her for my friends. This shot has two slaved SB600s with umbrellas, the onboard D200 flash, and a backlight. Technically, should be a breeze, right?

WRONG.

See, thing is, when dealing with a high-energy feline in a 6-foot custom cat tree, all bets are off.

What I didn't factor in was Beans' cooperation (not bad, for a cat that just wanted to play, honestly) and the results of leaving my D200 in the car overnight by accident - weird fog refraction in the lens. Still making newb mistakes 3 years later!
